March 19th, 2023.

We hope that you have had a wonderful weekend with your families and enjoyed this beautiful weather we have had!

What an exciting week we have had in Grade 2 this week! Here are some of the things we worked on; In math we are learning about Place Value (the values of the places in a four digit natural number are thousands, hundred, tens and ones), we had an opportunity to build some big numbers using place value mats and our place value blocks.

In Science, we continue to research our Arctic Animals in our small groups. This week we worked on habitat, diet and predators. As we continue to gather information we are very excited to become authors and publish our Research projects in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

We started a P.E. unit using hoola-hoops. We practiced moving safely in the gym. We used some simple movements trying to move the hoola-hoop on our bodies (hips, hands and elbows) and we played a new game called Magic Hula Hoop.

It has been a fun filled week with all things to do with St. Patrick's day and that sneaky little leprechaun! This week we designed blue prints for our leprechaun traps, we had an opportunity to write about which steps were needed in order to effectively trap our leprechauns.  We had a fun messy afternoon building our traps and we then had an opportunity to reflect back on our trap to see if it actually worked or not in our TWAS.

Our learning Intentions in Science (building) this week were:

I can predict what I think will happen

I can carry out simple procedures for an experiment

I can identify all the materials I need and used

I can describe what happened in an experiment

I can describe and explain the results of an experiment

I can identify steps followed in constructing an object and test it to see if it works

We hope you all have had a wonderful weekend with your families, see you Monday morning!
